Compared to its predecessor, the iPad Pro 12.9-Inch (Wi-Fi/Cellular - 2nd Gen) -- and its Wi-Fi only sibling, the iPad Pro 12.9-Inch (Wi-Fi Only - 2nd Gen) -- are essentially the same physical size, but pack a higher-quality display as well as better cameras and faster performance. Both 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2nd Gen) devices feature a fully-laminated, antireflective 12.9-inch LED-backlit 2732x2048 (264 ppi, DCI-P3 color gamut) touch-sensitive "Retina" display.

These models support a then new "ProMotion technology" that provides a 120 Hz refresh rate for smoother animations and lower latency when using the Apple Pencil accessory. The 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2nd Gen) models are powered by an Apple a20X processor, have 4 GB of RAM, and either 64 GB, 256 GB, or 512 GB of flash memory storage packed in a Black and Space Gray, White and Silver, or White and Gold case.

Other noteworthy features include dual cameras -- a rear-mounted 12 megapixel "iSight" camera capable of shooting stills and 4K video and a front-mounted 7 megapixel "FaceTime HD" camera capable of shooting stills and 1080p HD video, dual-band 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi with HT80 with MIMO capability and Bluetooth 4.2, as well as dual microphones and two sets of stereo speakers. Connectivity to computers, if desired, and power is provided by a Lightning port. A "Smart Connector" provides connectivity for a size-specific Apple Smart Keyboard. Additional input also is available courtesy of an optional "Apple Pencil" (a2603, MK0C2AM/A, US$99), which provides a variety of pressure sensitive sketching and drawing options.
